About
Blurries
DESIGN FROM BLURRY IDEAS
Martin Lukačka, designer and architect, founder of BLURRIES.
I studied architecture, and not long after finishing, I stepped into a different field — designing bespoke glass lighting. What began as an unplanned direction became, over twelve years, the focus of my work. I took on projects across different countries, and with each one, refined how I approach materials, craftsmanship, and collaboration.
Over time, my interest shifted. I wanted to design more than lighting — to create objects that reflect how I think, rooted in architecture but open to experimentation. The shift was gradual, not sudden, and the direction is now clear. Blurries is where I'm building on it. With over a decade of experience and a clear point of view, I'm developing original collections that reflect the way I work: precise, considered, made for people who pay attention to detail.
Hand-blown glass has a long tradition in the Czech Republic, recognised internationally. I've worked with it for twelve years, and it still surprises me — there is always another possibility to test, another limit to push. It's a material that demands skill and patience, which is exactly why it rewards the effort. Alongside it, I work with AI, VR, and parametric 3D modelling — tools that open up new ways of thinking through a design before it's made. Blurries sits at the intersection of these: craftsmanship and technology, structure and material.
This is how I design — for people who look for meaning in materials, and precision in form.

STORY

The name comes from how the work actually happens. Every object starts undefined — a rough idea, a material question, a form not yet settled. It stays blurry through sketching, testing, and material research, and only becomes precise through the discipline of making. Blurries doesn't hide that process. It names it.
What it means in practice: glass treated as something to be combined, not just shaped — cut or left uncut, clear or coloured, paired with metal, leather, or fabric depending on what the space calls for. Each collection works from this same logic, built for architects and interior designers who need objects that can be specified, configured, and trusted to perform.
Blurries is not a departure from bespoke work. It's what that experience was building toward.
